A criminal’s clean getaway after a housebreaking was cut short after he was caught within five minutes of his crime.
The burglary was reported to Wentworth SAPS on Wednesday, 22 March.
Crime prevention unit members were patrolling along Alabama Road, Wentworth when they noticed a man carrying a black and white bag. The officers stopped and searched him and the bag, which was filled with various household items such a clothing steamer, DVD player, hard drive, power supply adapter, power supply cable and a pair of gold loop earrings.
They took the 29-year-old man to the police station to thoroughly search the bag and he failed to prove the items belonged to him.
No less than five minutes before the arrest, a housebreaking report was opened. The officers contacted the home owner, who positively identified the items.
