ALLEGED FRAUDSTERS CAUGHT IN HIBBERDENE

TWO men were caught with bank card, cash, police pepper spray and a knife in Hibberdene on Saturday.
Police received the alert after a 79-year-old woman was approached by a man while drawing money at an ATM at about 11.40am.
“The man started to press buttons on the machine. When she asked him to leave, he continued,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
A car guard then alerted a manger of a nearby business who came to assist the complainant. The suspect ran away and jumped into a white sedan.
Traffic officials and security guards chased after the suspect and managed to stop the vehicle.
The men were taken to the Hibberdene police station and charged for possession of suspected stolen property and detained. They will appear in court soon in Hibberdene. The complainant also received two notifications on her cell phone that attempts were made to withdraw a substantial amount of cash from her account.
“Community members are once again warned to be alert when withdrawing money at ATMs and report suspicious persons lurking around,” said Wiid.
